Ep.206 Grab Life By The Balls (Kenny Kane of Testicular Cancer Foundation and Firmspace)
I joined Steve and Michelle on Mallet & Michelle in the Morning for a conversation that managed to weave together Bourbon Street stories, testicular cancer awareness, nonprofit lessons, AI creativity, the future of work, and what it actually means to build organizations with integrity. We talked about my path from Long Island to New York City to Austin, why I stepped into leadership at the Testicular Cancer Foundation, and how operations, empathy, and systems thinking shaped the work I've done across nonprofits, technology, and real estate. We also dug into Firmspace, the evolution of proworking, the rise of AI-assisted writing, and what happens when life, family, and mission all intersect. It’s a fun, candid episode and a reminder of how unexpected friendships and shared purpose can turn a balcony encounter in New Orleans into a decade-long connection.

The Flex Uncensored Podcast — Clarity in Flex with Kenny Kane
Recorded on August 30, 2023, I joined hosts Jamie Russo and Giovanni Palavacini on The Flex Uncensored Podcast to talk about Firmspace’s growth, our focus on serving established professionals, and my own path from operations to CEO. We explored why Firmspace was intentionally built for attorneys, financial services, consultants, and other privacy-driven professionals, and how that focus shapes our product decisions. I also shared my approach to leadership, grounded in servant leadership, staying close to day-to-day operations, and practicing “extreme ownership.”
The conversation moved into design and infrastructure, including what we’ve learned from working with demountable walls, acoustic strategies, and the ongoing challenge of balancing flexibility with confidentiality. We discussed Firmspace’s brand positioning as “aspirational but attainable,” sitting squarely between mass-market coworking and long-term direct leases. And along the way, we traded a few stories—building spaces over Zoom during COVID, navigating massive rooftop signage projects, and the realities of parenting a toddler.
Kenny Kane of StupidCancer on InspiredInsider with Dr. Jeremy Weisz
Kenny Kane joins Dr. Jeremy Weisz on InspiredInsider to share the real story behind building Stupid Cancer into one of the most recognized voices in young adult cancer advocacy. In this conversation, Kenny reflects on the early days of scrappy road trips, the creation of the OMG! Cancer Summit, and the operational systems that helped transform a small community into a national movement. He speaks candidly about why young adult cancer needed its own platform, how storytelling helped unite a dispersed community, and the lessons he learned while scaling programs, partnerships, and impact.
The episode also explores Kenny’s evolution from volunteer to executive leader, offering insight into the discipline, infrastructure, and decision-making required to support a mission at scale. Whether you’re a nonprofit operator, a healthcare professional, or someone connected to the young adult cancer community, this interview provides a deep look at what it takes to build something meaningful—and sustain it. Watch or listen to the full conversation with Kenny Kane on InspiredInsider with Dr. Jeremy Weisz.
The Morning Blend
In March 2012, Kenny Kane appeared on The Morning Blend to spotlight the upcoming OMG! Cancer Summit, the national gathering for adolescents and young adults affected by cancer. During the segment, Kenny shared why this age group had long been overlooked, how community-building became a lifeline, and what made the 2012 Summit a turning point for the movement.
He spoke about the event’s mission: bringing survivors, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare leaders together for a weekend of education, connection, and empowerment. Kenny highlighted the Summit’s unique role in amplifying young adult voices, expanding access to resources, and creating a nationwide support network at a time when very few existed.
The interview introduced viewers to the energy behind the young adult cancer movement and invited them to Las Vegas for the 2012 Summit—an event that helped cement the momentum that would define Stupid Cancer’s next decade of growth.
Stupid Cancer Road Trip
The 2012 Stupid Cancer/Get Busy Living Road Trip was a national awareness campaign designed to bring young adult cancer advocacy directly to communities across the country. Sponsored by Volkswagen, the tour traveled to ten cities, hosting meetups, hospital visits, and partner events that highlighted the unique challenges faced by adolescents and young adults affected by cancer.
The road trip served as a highly visible, grassroots storytelling platform. It offered survivors, caregivers, and supporters a chance to connect in person, share experiences, and access resources they often struggled to find locally. Each stop was intentionally crafted to build community, strengthen the young adult cancer movement, and elevate the mission of Stupid Cancer at a time when national recognition for this population was still emerging.
The journey concluded in Las Vegas at the OMG! Cancer Summit, where the momentum of the tour fed directly into one of the largest annual gatherings of young adult cancer survivors in the world. The 2012 road trip helped cement Stupid Cancer’s reputation as a movement builder—uniting people through shared experience, bold storytelling, and on-the-ground engagement that inspired the organization’s future national campaigns.
